Tesis Materias > Ciencias Sociales Universidad Europea del Atlántico > Docencia > Trabajos finales de Grado Cerrado Inglés Thanks to the versatility and multidisciplinar aspects of corpus linguistics, this discipline has been used to study many different fields of research through corpus methodology. This study places its focus in the study of literary texts using corpus methodology, which is currently known as corpus stylistics. A lot of literary aspects are being studied inside this scope, like lexical aspects, narrative styles, neology, and characterization among many others. This study has its starting point in the research of Salim, & Saad, (2016) who suggested that verbs might play a role in the characterization process. This study searches to portray the role held by verbs in the characterization process in the Harry Potter saga. In order to carry out this research, a corpus containing the books of the saga was compiled. With the purpose of narrowing the sample, only four characters were studied: Harry, Ron, Hermione and Lord Voldemort. A sample containing 100 verbs per character from the saga was extracted from the corpus. These verbs were then grouped and categorized according to a system of tags; this tag system was implemented to help visualize the type of verb and usage role of the studied items. The analysis of these verbs had three different stages. The first one dealt with a comparison between the characters. The second one, analyzed the character development —comparison within characters—; finally the third one compared the results gathered from the second stage of the analysis and compared them with the other characters. The results obtained from this analysis were conclusive and show that, as suspected, verbs do indeed play a role in the characterization process. metadata Becerro Campos, Teresa Devi mail teresa.becerro@alumnos.uneatlantico.es (2021) Verb's role in the characterization process: verb analysis of the Harry Potter saga.
